For an interesting read on the fur trappers and traders of Wyoming, read the story on the front page of the February 15, 1917 Buffalo Bulletin out of Johnson county. The Lewis & Clark expedition led the way to increased fur trapping and trade. In 1822, St. Louis businessman General Ashley got into the fur business and brought to Wyoming several trappers who became   very important to our history. Among them was Jim Bridger. He was known as the Daniel Boone of the Rocky Mountains and built Fort Bridger which was later purchased by the military and became Fort Laramie. You can read more about the fur trapping and trading days in the historic Wyoming newspapers at  http://wyonewspapers.org/
