Donating Newspapers

Have historic Wyoming newspapers?

Making Wyoming’s historic newspapers available to the world for education and historical research, including genealogy, is the cornerstone of Wyoming Newspapers. Wyoming Newspapers is a continual work-in-progress that includes more than 330 historic newspapers with close to 800,000 pages. Many times, people and groups approach the project with historic Wyoming newspapers that they have in their possession. Partnerships are important to the vitality and expansion of Wyoming Newspapers. Whether you or your organization has one issue or an entire run of a title, in either paper or microfilm, Wyoming Newspapers is interested in forming partnerships to digitize them to include in the collection. While the collection includes Wyoming newspapers from as early as 1849, there are many newspaper titles and issues that are still needed to complete it.

Wyoming Newspapers is primarily interested in historic newspapers before 1923. These are in the public domain and have no copyright restrictions. However, the project is also interested in Wyoming newspapers after 1922. Those published between 1923 and 1977 without copyright notices are in the public domain. Newspapers published in this same period with copyright notice may be in the public domain if the copyright was not renewed. Even if the newspaper is copyrighted, the copyright holder can give permission to digitize and include them in Wyoming Newspapers.

Please contact us with any questions in regards to possible partnerships to digitize historic Wyoming newspapers.
